The Pirate’s Cove: Portland’s Best Dive Bar

Pirate's Cove - Roseway NeighborhoodOK, so this one is probably up for debate since Portland has a TON of dive bars…  But only the Pirate’s Cove, nestled in the center of the Roseway Neighborhood, happens to have been named one of the best dive bars in America by Maxim Magazine.  So to me, that automatically places it at the top of the local list.

The building, best known as the “Sandy Jug”, was built in 1928 and was originally a service station and soda shoppe.  In the architectural community, the jug is listed as one of the only remaining “unusual” architectural buildings on left on Sandy Blvd.

  1. I used to work at this bar, when it was the Sandy Jug. Hehehe. Nothing like bar tending the AM weekend shift. It used to have strippers and the biggest dollar breakfast you’ve ever seen.
